A Re-Affirmation. The Posting of the LP Manifesto.

Loquacious Placemat is here to resuscitate
the lost traditions of the broadsheet, the
pamphlet, the scribble and the screed. The
central idea is to get writing off of the shelves,
out of the drawers and into the streets.

We want to give literary fiction the power
to ambush the public. We want our stories to
be read by as broad a range of people as
possible. If this means that it is read through a
haze of cigarette smoke, gets splashed with
coffee or stained with whiskey, then so much
the better!

Our words can live long, healthy and quiet
lives nestled away in the literary corners of the
internet; they deserve to be lovingly bound in
traditional journals and stored on the shelves
of connoisseurs and academics. But, they need
to get out every once in a while. We want to
give the works published in Loquacious
Placemat the opportunity to get tattered
around the edges, folded in fourths and stuffed
in someone's back pocket.

Loquacious Placemat is here to put strange
words in front of those who would not
otherwise seek them out. Online, we will be a
concise and tidy journal. Out in the world, we
will be something not so easily defined;
something a little strange put out there with
the hopes that our strangeness will rub off on
the world

  1. Hi Eric - I was wandering around Duotrope catching up on new markets I might want to submit to, but when I came to LP I stopped being a writer and became - I don't know, a marketer? I'm fascinated by your concept and want to know if you're distributing this anywhere - I'm thinking of so many places that might like this, but they're all different. What might appeal to a tea house or vegan lunchroom might not work in a burger joint or local bar and certainly wouldn't work in a kid-friendly ice cream parlor. So tell me more about what you're doing - are businesses on their own to print your placemats? Do they? Are you in contact with them? etc etc - info, please!

  2. Greetings, Sloopie.

In answer to your question, our hard copies find themselves primarily in coffeehouses here in the states, though we are talking to several bars and diners for the Jan/Feb edition.

It is definitely a diverse group we're looking to appeal to and that poses its own unique delights from an editorial standpoint. Ultimately, we like to think that the cofeehouses and vegan lunchrooms have more in common with the bars and burger joints than either would like to admit and figure LP is a great way to bridge that divide.

The kid-friendly ice cream parlor is a trickier matter. As is, we've already had to decline some stellar work in order to avoid offending any overly sensitive readers, but we believe it is all for the good of the cause.

We'll be posting more info on distribution options in the coming weeks.

    Thanks for you support!
